Best Free Stock Photo Sites

In addition to being a web developer, part of my work includes the maintenance of actual site content. Writing articles on a variety of different topics, posting minor blog updates, and creating new interactive elements are all elements of site upkeep that I perform regularly. You can have the copy ready to go live on a site, but you need visual assets to help attract eyes to your article. I have bookmarked a few really helpful free stock photo sites that can help you in content creation in the future.

Free Stock Photos for Content Writers

Every developer or web designer has taken part in the creation of content for a website. You have to include certain visual assets to make a post more readable: visual styles and multimedia. Instead of going out and taking photos of your own, you can save the time and money by checking out some of the free stock photography sites below.

Pixabay

I have used images from Pixabay in over half of the online content that I’ve created. Go to their site, search for the image you’re in need of, and easily download it in almost any size you require. There’s no strings attached. If you’re in the giving mood, Pixabay readily accepts photo contributions. Their API is also extremely popular among developers.

Pexels

Pexels is an immensly popular archive of free quality imagery. Find your image and save it without any hassle like joining or signing up for obnoxious newsletters like some other free image sites require. They offer a great selection of technology-related photos, which makes my content writing work so much easier.

Public Domain Archive

With a site built more like a magazine-style blog, Public Domain Archive offers a very large selection of pictures. I must say that the greatest aspect of their site is the ease of use. It has an easily-navigable design that offers easy access to almost any type of picture you may be looking for. PD only offers a single size of each photo for download, but getting in on a premium membership opens you up to a wide variety of extra content.

foter

I have to tell you how much I enjoy’s foter’s great UI. They put flat design to great use in the visual layout of their website. foter incorporates the use of AJAX to quickly server up search results to the user and you’ll notice that it’s smooth and offers a great user experience. They also provide multiple sizes of images to the public for free.

Unsplash

Populated with beautiful rural photography and sharp urban settings, Unsplash is a blog-style archive that employs a brilliant use of infinite scroll to serve you their photography. The only downside about their site is that its not searchable. Don’t get me wrong – Unsplash is a very valuable photo resource.

These are just a few of the sites I use when I’m requiring the use of photography or graphics. If you’re a content writer in need of some excellent free stock photography, you can’t go wrong with these websites.
